Maroš Šefčovič (born in 1966) is a Slovak diplomat, who since 1 December 2019 has served as Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight. He leads the Commission’s work on interinstitutional relations, better policymaking, strategic foresight and the European Battery Alliance. He also co-chairs the EU-UK Partnership Council and the EU-UK Joint Committee. Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Interinstitutional Relations and Administration, and then the Energy Union (2010 – 2019); Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth (2004 -2009). Elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2014. Before, he was the Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the EU. As a diplomat he served in Zimbabwe and Canada and as Ambassador to Israel (1992-2004). He graduated from the University of Economy (Bratislava) and the Moscow State Institute for Foreign Relations. He holds a degree as Doctor of Law and a PhD of European Law (Comenius University, Bratislava). He wrote a book "Driving the EU forward – talks with Maroš Šefčovič".
Thierry Breton is the EU Commissioner for Internal Market, in charge of industry, digital, space, defence, audiovisual and tourism. Engineer in computer science, he began his career as an entrepreneur in the IT sector. Siyamend Al Barazi holds a degree in geology and has been working for DERA at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) since 2011. Since 2021, he is Head of Unit "Mineral Economics" and is responsible for DERA's raw materials monitoring, which includes screening of supply, demand and prices as well as market analyses of individual commodities. DERA provides information and analyses on potential price and supply risks for selected raw materials. The main goal is to increase market transparency for the German industry. |

Karol W. Bednarek coordinates the working group "Raw Material Availability" at the VDA. Since 2017, this working group has established a raw materials monitoring focusing on battery raw materials, rare earths and sustainability. The working group provides its members with pre-competitive market information and forecasts up to 2035.
Nicola Beer is Vice-President and Member of the European Parliament. She serves as special envoy on combatting religious discrimination and is chair of the working group on combating antisemitism. In the European Parliament she works especially in the Committees for Economy and Currencies, for Foreign Affaires as well as for Industry and Research. She is the Parliament's rapporteur on the Critical Raw Materials Act.
Guillaume Bertrand holds a Ph.D. in tectonics and geodynamics from the University of Paris. He started working at BRGM, the French Geological Survey, in 2003. Since 2008, he works at BRGM’s Georesources Division. There, he now is the head of the 'Geology of Mineral resources' (GEM) unit, dedicated to primary mineral resources, including the understanding of deposit genetic processes, mineral exploration, prospectivity mapping, potential assessment, etc. He also is expert for EuroGeoSurveys' Mineral Resources Expert Group and coordinator of the mineral resources team in the EU-funded GSEU ("Geological Service for Europe") project.

Ms Brinnen works as corporate lawyer and Head of Regulatory Affairs at the Swedish mining company LKAB, that mines 85% of the iron ore produced in Europe and is set to lead the transformation of the mining industry towards sustainability. Together with partners, LKAB has developed the HYBRIT technology for fossil free steel. In January, LKAB announced the discovery of Europe’s largest known deposit of REEs in the vicinity of its Kiruna mine in North Sweden. Ms Brinnen has a background as a lawyer in environmental law and environmental permit procedures.

Peter Buchholz is heading the German Mineral Resources Agency (DERA) at the German Geological Survey (BGR). Peter joined the BGR in 2005 as economic geologists. Before his time at the BGR he worked in the areas of ore deposit research, exploration and commodity trading. After his PhD in 1995 at the RWTH Aachen he worked at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and from 1998 to 2002 as director of the M.Sc. Programme in Exploration Geology at the University of Zimbabwe. His research and entrepreneurial work has, nationally and internationally, been awarded.

Dina Carrilho holds a PhD and has been working in the raw materials field for over 10 years. She works as senior science officer at the Department of International Relations of the Portuguese national Research Funding Organisation (FCT- Foundation for Science and Technology). Dina is currently coordinating the EU project ERA-MIN3 on raw materials for the sustainable development and the circular economy, following the coordination of ERA-MIN2. Presently, Dina is a Board member of the not-for profit association International Raw Materials Observatory (INTRAW) representing FCT.
Since joining Natural Resources Canada in 1999, Maureen Coulas has taken on a wide variety of responsibilities in such areas as mineral resources governance, trade and investment promotion, and environmental management. Maureen is currently a Deputy Director in the International Affairs and Trade Division of the Lands and Minerals Sector, managing a team responsible for relations with the United States, the European Union and European countries. Prior to joining the public sector, Maureen worked for several years in Toronto for a global natural resources company.
Dahl has more than 30 years of experience in materials technology and metal production both from the R&D sector (SINTEF) and from Hydro Extruded Products as head of Extrusion Competence Centre (2008-2013). In SINTEF the research covers the whole value-chain, from processing of raw materials, through sustainable production and processing of metals. Recycling, recovery and waste valorization are also important topics. Dahl is SINTEF representative in the board of the Norwegian strategy process Process 21 and is a member of EARTO WG on Critical Raw Materials.
Chloé Devauze works as project manager at In Extenso Innovation Croissance (IEIC) on resource efficiency in a circular economy. Since 2014, she has specialised in strategic raw materials, their value chains and environmental impacts. She is a recognised advisor, working both for public authorities as well as innovative industrial projects.
Iman Dorri holds a M.Sc. in Circular Economy and Environmental Engineering. He is working as a scientific researcher at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in the FutuRaM (Future Availability of Secondary Raw Materials) project. The focus of his work is on developing a systematic procedure for applying UNFC on site-specific projects and also at national levels related to the secondary raw materials and extraction of material from anthropogenic resources.

Milan Grohol, PhD is a Policy Officer in the Unit of Energy intensive industries, Raw Materials, Hydrogen at the Directorate-General for Internal market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW), European Commission. Since 2004, he contributes to the EU raw materials policy and initiatives, including the programming of Horizon funding on raw materials. He leads the EU assessment of the Critical Raw Materials and the organisation of the EU Raw Materials Week since 2016. He represents DG GROW in the Bureau of the UNECE Expert Group on Resource Management since 2018.

Soraya Heuss-Aßbichler is a professor of Mineralogy at the University of Munich (LMU). For over 20 years, she has been conducting applied research. Starting with investigations on the environmental impact of waste, her activity is now focused on waste as a resource, challenges and opportunities of the circular economy and sustainability. In 2022 he was the primary reviewer for the UNFC Guidance Europe and has now been part of the expert group updating the CRIRSCO-UNFC Bridging Document.Janne is a EurGeol and member of Minerals Working Group (UNECE) and PERC (The Pan European Reserves and Resources Reporting Committee) through the Fennoscandian Association for Metals and Minerals Professionals (FAMMP).
Dr Julie Hollis is Secretary General of EuroGeoSurveys, representing 37 Geological Surveys of Europe. EuroGeoSurveys bridges the geoscience–policy gap at European level, delivering expert scientific data and advice to support the green transition, build strategic partnerships, moving towards establishing a sustainable Geological Service for Europe. Julie has a PhD in Geology and a Master of Science Communication from the University of Edinburgh, and more than 20-years of experience in research and senior management roles in Australia, Denmark, Greenland, and Belgium.
Alessa Hool (MSc, MAS) is the CEO of ESM Foundation, a Swiss foundation dedicated to rare and critical metals and a more sustainable use of them. Alessa coordinates various Swiss, European, and international activities on critical raw materials, such as the EIT RawMaterials funded project International Round Table in Materials Criticality, IRTC.
Erika is Head of Division, Mineral Information & Mining Industry at SGU since 2015. Her division runs the Mineral information office in Malå, statistics on mining, exploration, raw materials, government commissions, and also runs international capacity building projects. Among other things, Erika is part of the team that negotiated the CRMA during the Swedish EU Presidency, and one of the experts contributing to the Swedish government FIMM inquiry on securing innovation critical raw materials.

Madalina Ivanica is Deputy Head of Unit in the European Commission - Unit on Energy Intensive Industries, Raw Materials and Hydrogen of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs in January 2022. She previously worked in the Directorate-General for Environment in the area of enlargement and accession negotiations and EU inter-institutional relations. Ms. Ivanica served also as Advisor to the Romanian Chief Negotiator for accession to the European Union and was Director of Studies and an Associate Professor in European Studies at the Maastricht University. Ms. Ivanica received a Ph.D. in economics and holds a B.Sc. (Honours) in Psychology.

Before joining Boliden, Åsa was the Executive Vice President HR and Health & Safety at Ahlstrom-Munksjö, a company within the pulp and paper industry, and before that she had different senior positions within ABB, mainly within HR and Sustainability. Åsa holds a MSc in Business and Economics from the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Marjeta JAGER is currently Deputy Director-General for the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA). Ms JAGER has been working in the European Commission since 2005, starting as Director for Security in DG Energy and Transport and later being Director for international energy and transport files and coordination, as well as being Head of Cabinet of the Transport Commissioner.
Before joining the Commission Ms JAGER was more than a decade working on the accession of Slovenia to the EU for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and she was the first Deputy Permanent Representative (Coreper I) of Slovenia to the EU.

En 2006, après les premières élections démocratiques, Vital KAMERHE LWA KANYIGINYI NKINGI est élu Président de l’Assemblée Nationale de la RDC, poste qu’il a occupé de décembre 2006 à mars 2009, avant de démissionner et de rejoindre l’opposition politique dont il a été l’une des principales figures, en fondant son propre parti politique, l’Union pour la Nation Congolaise (UNC) en 2010.
Dans une région de Grands-Lacs frappée par de multiples conflits armés et des guerres récurrentes depuis 1994, il a joué un rôle de premier plan dans les différents processus de paix et négociations, notamment celui de Sun-City qui a conduit à la signature d’un Accord Global et Inclusif entre le Gouvernement congolais et les belligérants.

Asko Käpyaho has more than 20 years of work history in various fields of geology. Currently, he works as the Head of Mineral Economy Solutions Unit at the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK). He has a PhD in geology and mineralogy (2007). His work history and scientific career covers broad field of geosciences, including mineral exploration, scientific research on the evolution of the Fennoscandia Shield, mineral systems research, science and innovation management as well as geological research related to the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel.
Ben Katz leads the sector team on mineral supply chains at the OECD's Centre for Responsible Business Conduct, looking after implementation of the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas. Their work encompasses research, convening and international cooperation across energy transition, base and precious minerals. Ben has more than a decade of experience at the nexus of development and natural resources, including in field projects to improve conditions in the informal mining sector.
Tae-Yoon Kim is a Senior Energy Analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA). He is a main contributor to the IEA’s flagship publications, the World Energy Outlook and the World Energy Investment. He leads IEA’s work on critical minerals and was a lead author of the special report on the Role of Critical Minerals in Clean Energy Transitions. Prior to joining the IEA, he worked as a senior manager at Accenture and as an infrastructure finance specialist at the World Bank.

Pertti Lamberg is Sakatti Project Manager and CEO of AA Sakatti Mining Oy which is Anglo American's Finnish subsidiary operating in Sodankylä. The Sakatti project is a significant grassroots discovery of Cu-Ni-PGE and it is currently in a permitting phase and entering to the pre-feasibility study B stage. Pertti has more than 30 years’ experience in the mining industry and academia and has previously been working as Research Metallurgist in Outokumpu, Outotec and University of Queensland, professor in geometallurgy at Luleå Universtiy of Technology and CEO in Keliber.

Olivia Lazard is a fellow at Carnegie Europe. Her research focuses on the geopolitics of climate, the transition ushered by climate change, and the risks of conflict and fragility associated to climate change and environmental collapse.
Sophie Lebouil has been working for the last 10 years in the mining and metallurgical industry. She was the head of the R&D program for the ReLieVe project between 2018 and 2021. In 2022 she joined the Project Team for the industrialization phase as Project Control Manager. She is also involved in many cross functional activities related to the European ecosystem as Eramet’s representative in the Battery Regulation workshops coordinated by JRC and as the coordinator of ReLieVe project funded by CINEA through the Innovation Fund.
Pascal Leroy, Director General of the WEEE Forum since 2007, oversees the general management of the association. He has been involved in all manner of e-waste programmes, policies and projects for twenty years. Formerly he was Government Affairs Manager on WEEE at APPLiA, the European home appliance manufacturing industry association. He also worked for five years in the European Parliament, as well as for Hill and Knowlton, one of the world’s largest PR/PA firms.
In 2009, he took on the management of the WEEE Forum's WEEELABEX project that created the world’s first set of harmonised e-waste standards and set up the WEEELABEX Organisation in Prague, Czechia. In the past ten years, he was legal entity authorised representative for the WEEE Forum of multiple EU grant-funded projects regarding WEEE illegal trade (CWIT), recycling of LCD visual displays (REVOLV), secondary raw materials in the urban mine (ProSUM), circular services and business models (C-SERVEES), certification schemes for waste treatment (CEWASTE), data collection for primary and secondary raw materials (ORAMA), waste collection systems (COLLECTORS), future availability of raw materials (FUTURAM) and circular digital health devices (DICE). He is also a Sherpa to the High-Level Steering Group of the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials and as such contributed to the Strategic Implementation Plan.

Prior to joining UNECE, Dario was the Chief Underwriting Officer at SACE, responsible for export credit, the EU Green New Deal and the guarantees under the EU Temporary Framework. Before joining SACE, Dario spent more than a decade with General Electric (GE), at the Council of Europe Development Bank and with the European Commission. His career started at Cargill.
Dr Andor Lips holds over 30 years of mineral sector experience which he integrates in providing technical, financial, and strategic advice in his current consultancy practice.
Andor is Senior Advisor at HCF International Advisers. He is currently also advising entities in Saudi Arabia on mineral strategies. He holds non-executive roles for Western Tethyan Resources, Firefox Gold Corporation, and Verde Magnesium.
Previously he held senior roles at Eldorado Gold Corp, ING Bank, the Commodity Discovery Fund, Lydian International, and BRGM.
Frederic Lucenet heads the EBRD Manufacturing & Services activities in London. His group invests c. €1bn/yr in debt and equity projects for private clients in various industries inc. e-mobility, metals, chemicals, H2, biomass and recycling. Frederic held several board positions inc. at Societe Generale Romanian Development Bank and MS Pharma. Frederic started his career at the World Bank in Washington. A French national, he is an engineer with degrees from MIT and from the INSEAD MBA program.
Victoire de Margerie, PhD, held management roles in the chemicals and metal industries in Canada, France, Germany & the USA until 2002. She then became Professor of Strategy and Technology at Grenoble School of Management until 2011. Since 2012, she is CEO of Rondol and a Board Director at Eurazeo. Since 2014 she is also Founder of World Materials Forum, since 2019 a Member of the National Academy of Technologies of France, since 2021 a Board Director at Mines ParisTech and since 2022 a Board Director at Ivanhoe Electric (USA).
Eva Mayerhofer is the Head of the Environment Policy Unit in the Sustainability and Quality Management Department and Lead Biodiversity Specialist of the European Investment Bank. She leads the EIB’s efforts to support EU and international biodiversity policies; develop business models and financing instruments to support nature positive investments and drive natural capital transformation. She has over 20 years of experience in environmental impact assessment and has worked extensively across Europe, Asia, the Pacific and Africa with various development agencies.
Peter Moser is professor at Montanuniversität Leoben as well as Rector of the institution since the autumn of 2023. He completed his MSc in Mining Engineering with a specialisation in Tunnelling in 1983, his PhD in Mining in 1989 and his habilitation in 1998. Visiting professorships have taken him to Paris and St. Petersburg. From 2008 until 2023 he held the Chair of Mining Engineering & Mineral Economics as a full university professor.
In 2011 he was appointed Vice Rector at Montanuniversität, responsible for international affairs and infrastructure and in 2023 he was elected Rector. He has written more than 130 scientific papers in the field of drilling & blasting, mine development, underground mining, rock mechanics & rock cutting, ventilation, process technology, raw materials management and mineral policy issues.
He is a public certified expert for mining engineering and mineral economics and active with R&D work and consulting for the mining industry, mine administration and international research funds. Through his very active involvement in the European raw materials landscape, such as his involvement in the European Innovation Partnership on Raw Materials High Level Steering Group or his role as steering committee member in the EIT RawMaterials Community, his research and devotion currently revolve around political and societal challenges regarding a sustainable raw materials supply of Europe and the globe.
Jan Moström, President and CEO of LKAB and President of Euromines since 1 January 2023. LKAB mines 85% of the iron ore produced in Europe and is set to lead the transformation of the mining industry towards sustainability. Together with partners, LKAB has developed the HYBRIT technology for fossil free steel. In January, LKAB announced the discovery of Europe’s largest known deposit of REEs in the vicinity of its Kiruna mine. Mr. Moström joined LKAB in 2015. Prior to that he was President Mining Operations for Boliden and has extensive experience in senior positions in the mining industry.
Karin Nutti Pilflykt is born and raised in Gällivare, Swedish part of Sápmi. She is from a reindeer herding family in Sirges Sami village.
Nutti Pilflykt holds a Degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in Forest Science and a master's in Land Use and Environmental Law. She is also currently pursuing a master’s degree in Forestry.
Karin is working as an advisor at the Sami council in the EU unit, mainly with forest issues.

Paula Pinho is Director at the Directorate-General Energy in the European Commission since April 2021. She is responsible for Just Transition, Consumers, Energy Security, Efficiency and Innovation. Portuguese national and lawyer by training, Ms. Pinho draws on her extensive knowledge of various EU policies, and in particular EU energy policy, as well as on her leadership and negotiation skills towards her commitment to Europe’s clean and just energy transition and energy security.
Since 2020, Ch.Poinssot is the Deputy Director General and Scientific Director of the French Geological Survey, in charge of the overall strategy on mineral and water resources, natural hazards, geoenergies and geological data. He also chairs EuroGeoSurveys, the association of the EU geological surveys. He previously worked during 25 y. in CEA both as expert and in management position. He holds a PhD in material science and a HDR in nuclear chemistry. He serves in numerous scientific committees.
Julia is Senior Director, Vehicles & Emobility Supply Chains at Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe's leading NGO campaigning for cleaner transport. Julia works on policies regulating vehicle emissions, such as the EU car CO2 standards, sustainable batteries and critical raw materials. Julia also represents T&E on the board of the Global Battery Alliance, and is an unpaid advisor to the board of Vulcan Energy Resources.

Michael Reckordt is a trained geographer and works since 2008 on mining and trade issues. Since 2013 he has been working for the German NGO PowerShift and deals with natural resource policies and the impact of mining on human rights and the environment.
Luciana Rendace is a Senior Project Manager for Drive Sustainability, a collaborative platform of 18 automotive companies, facilitated by CSR Europe. She is responsible for the area of responsible sourcing of raw materials – there she supports the setup and promotion of common standardized tools and methods for sustainable sourcing management and the implementation of impact key projects. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Sciences and Middle Eastern Studies and a Master’s degree in International Development from Sciences Po Paris.
Cilia is the Head of the Metals, Mining & Fertilizers EMEA team of ING Bank N.V., based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The EMEA team works closely together with the New York and Singapore MMF teams to create a truly global mining franchise. She has >17 years of experience in leading teams and managing complex, multi-stakeholder, multi-time-zone projects and arranging and structuring a wide variety of financings in the mining and energy industry.
Ghadi Sabra has an educational background in both geology and mining engineering, as well as professional experience in the field of environmental consultancy. He is currently pursuing his PhD in sustainable resource management at the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. His project focuses on disseminating the UNFC, for primary and secondary raw materials, across the EU, with particular attention to Italy. Ghadi also assists the work of the UNECE Secretariat of the Expert Group on Resource Management.

Dr. Slavko Solar is a Mineral Resource Geologist who worked as an exploration geologist, manager, consultant, policy adviser for over 35 years in resource management on several levels: from deposit exploration to regional, national and European policy making. He has an extensive list of publications related to his expertise published in journals and conference proceedings.
Mikael Staffas is the President and CEO of Boliden since 2018. He has been a member of the top management group at Boliden since 2011, first as CFO and then as Head of Business Area Mines. Mikael is the Chairman of the board of GAF and Vice-Chairman of Eurometaux, Industriarbetsgivarna and SveMin. He is a member of the Board of IZA, ICA, ICMM, as well as member of the Executive Board and Board of Svenskt Näringsliv.
Dr Roman Stiftner is Managing Director of the Austrian Mining and Steel Association and the Austrian Non-Ferrous Metals Federation and Director-General of EUMICON. He serves as President of the European Shippers’ Council (ESC) and of the Austrian Logistics Association (BVL) and Vice-President in Euromines. Previously, he served as a member of the state parliament in Vienna. He holds a doctorate and is a lecturer at the University of Applied Science Vienna
Jones is the Director of the KU Leuven Institute for Sustainable Metals and Minerals (SIM²) and co-founder of KU Leuven’s SOLVOMET R&I Centre that focuses on circular hydrometallurgy. Jones has been a coordinator or partner in more than 30 EU-funded projects on sustainable metallurgy and critical raw materials. Jones is the author of several books and presenter of documentaries (e.g. Responsible mining in Europe (2022), Made in Europe: from mine to Electric Vehicle (release: Nov’ 2023)).
Vasileios serves as Director of Corporate Development at Neo Performance Materials, leading business development initiatives, global government relations, the Greenland mining project, and the annual Sustainability Report. He serves on the boards of European Union Chamber of Commerce in Canada and the Global Rare Earth Industry Association, chairing its Public Policy Committee. He was a contributing author to the Springer book “Critical Minerals, the Climate Crisis and the Tech Imperium”. Previously, he worked in management consulting, investment banking, and politics.
Dr. Antti Vasara is the President & CEO of VTT Ltd since 2015. VTT is a visionary research, development and innovation partner with over 2200 people and turnover exceeding 260 MEUR. He is president of EARTO (European Association of Research and Technology Organisations) and a non-executive director of Elisa Oyj (largest communications operator in Finland). He has served on several high-level groups on industrial and innovation policy of the European Commission in addition to several groups in Finland on artificial intelligence and research policy.
Kathrin is a Policy Officer at the European Commission working at DG Research & Innovation on European Partnerships.
She holds a Master's degree in political science and has been active in academic research and science communication prior to joining the European Commission.
Dr. Jarkko Vesa works as a Senior Specialist at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland. His work focuses on critical raw materials and the development of the Finnish battery value chain. Currently he is working with the EU Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) and the new mineral strategy for Finland. Dr Vesa is a member of the IEA Critical Minerals Working Party (CMWP), and the National focal point for UNEA 5/12 Environmental aspects of minerals and metals management.
Dr. Lourdes Yurramendi is Chemist Ph. D. by the University of the Basque Country (Spain). At present she develops her professional activity in the Waste Valorisation Dept. integrated in the Energy, Climate and Urban Transition Unit, where she has been working as director of projects since 1988. She was also responsible for the Organic Environmental Laboratory for ten years. She has large experience in the management of projects and consortium coordination, at national and European level.
